I had the pleasure of being able to test a new pattern from Little Lizard King.
This is the brand new Darlington dress. I made two different versions this time.
For my teenager, I decided to have a bit more of a sophisticated look.
I chose the wider piping detail for the center panel, and sleeveless.
I chose navy blue buttons in the back, so as to not draw attention. I've seen button details be featured on different dresses, and it also looks nice.
I did lengthen the bodice 1.5", and grade the waist in. It took some math, but the fit on her is excellent, and the dress is absolute perfection.
Yes.....dad threw a fit when I let her wear my heels for a more grown up look.
For the baby, I wanted to draw out the more girlish details and options.
This little cutie got ruffle details on the side of the middle panel, as well as sweet flutter sleeves with some piping details.
She also got side ties, which are such an adorable vintage option.
For her snaps, I chose a dark brown to compliment the coloring of the dress without drawing too much attention.
All of the fabric for this project can be found at fabric.com.
Overall this pattern is adorable. It comes with details on how to enclose the middle panels, and it can be confusing at first. There is a video tutorial that makes construction understandable, and after you do it the first time, it's easy to understand and do again and again.
Go grab your copy of the Darlington pattern...you won't be sad!
Happy sewing!
