A few months ago I posted about 'literally nothing'. Sometimes I think we will be in that perpetual state of waiting FOREVERRR.
But alas, the show must go on, somehow. I came to the owner of the house next door with our offer. It was about 60k less than his asking price, BUT we would buy the house as is.
He and his sister did NOT want to get sucked into projects on this house, since he was already building other things and sucked into other projects. He told me he would talk to his sister, since they were sort of selling their parents house together.
About an hour later, I got a call to come back to see him, and he asked when we would need to house......because they accepted our offer! We decided not to use a realtor, and just go through the lawyer, keeping any costs down that we could. When I got back to moms house, I got a call from Greg saying Eden was denied EFMP....so you can imagine that was probably the happiest day of this story. We had a forever home, AND we might be able to get back to Japan! ....if only.
As we turned in the appeal and waited for six weeks, we worked on the process of buying a home. We decided to get a VA loan, which requires a few extra steps, but that's alright. We got the contract signed, financing settled, appraisal done, inspection done, termite/moisture inspection done...
Everything came back great, except we had to remove the storm shutters on the front of the house because the VA was concerned about lead paint with the age of the house. We were all set to close July 16! Then....of course....we didn't.
We can thank the VA for this one. We can't close until the final VA inspection is done. What do they need to inspect? We're waiting for someone to come make sure the shutters were taken down. That is literally all we're waiting for. And of course....we can't schedule it. They call us. Because that always works out really well, right?
Happy Sewing!!
