Rewind

Today we're going back in time again.

We're going back about a year. When we were a few months into the two week lockdown. I was a bit bummed, so my mom decided to show me the house next door.

It was weird, it felt like trespassing. She told me it was okay because the owners were very old, and the dad has passed away and the mother moved into a retirement community. They had asked her to check in on the property every now and then, so we had permission to be there.

We started out around the house, and it was pretty cool, with a formal English garden of Boxwoods and a small fountain on the side of the house. And then.....it kept going.

I thought the property was really fascinating as we walked through each section. At that time we were talking about moving to North Carolina for Gregs orders, and we played with the thought that maybe we just move here instead.

I wasn't too keen on moving to NC, and it was a reasonable distance to where Greg could come home weekends, maybe take some leave now and then.

Mom was able to track down the son who was sort of taking care of the house after his mom moved, and he let us borrow a key so we could see inside.

The house is almost 100yrs old, built in 1929. As we walked through, so many things caught our attention.

We talked to him a little about when he would be selling the house. He didn't think he'd be ready to sell it for about another year. Since the parents had gotten old, and the dad had died, his mother just couldn't keep up with it and it needed some work, especially the property. So I figured it was really amazing, but the timing was all off. I sort of put it out of my mind.

Well, obviously things went in a different direction since then. Every time I came to visit my mom and Kevin, we would go take a walk around the property. Every time we had family visit, we would go show them the house next door. Almost every time we came to visit, we'd take a trip to see the son and he'd let us borrow the key to go inside.

In the winter, we talked a little more with the son about Japan, and how there was a possibility we might be denied and would need a home.

.....and then it started seeming more and more possible that we might be able to buy this home, as our timelines for needing to move in and his timeline for selling the house sort of synced up....

Happy Sewing!!
