Down the Trail We Go

I know, I've been holding back SO MUCH as far as where we're going, and what's been happening in our family. It's been such an intense journey, and I never really know where to begin. I must have started this post five times over the past three months, but I do believe it's time to share this journey we've been on, in all its disappointing, hopeful, raw glory.

I had made a Sakura Collection over the winter, in anticipation of this announcement, and even though this is not really the post I was hoping to attach them to, I will still share them.

Interestingly enough, this journey actually started more than a year ago. We were a few months into the two week lockdown, and the kids and I were living in the country at my mom's house. I got a call from Greg one evening; he was distressed because there was an unexpected gap in the Lejeune assignment, and he was going to have to take it.

I started looking at homes in the area, and sort of mourning the fact that we would have to move much earlier than we thought, and there was so much work on the house to do in such a short amount of time.

We buckled down, and sent my stepdad Kevin up to work on the bathroom with Greg. Then we realized we would have to move ourselves because Covid was messing everything up.

The more we talked and planned, the more we realized we would not be able to move the family right away, and we decided Greg would have to move by himself for a year or so. We were preparing ourselves for a year long separation, with some visits here and there since he would be fairly close. He was basically out the door, just a few weeks from the separation date from Quantico, and already in contact with his new job in Lejeune when we got the call.

There was a marine who was not stateside who needed to get back right away, and the only available place he could go was the open orders Greg was supposed to fill in Lejeune. We were asked if we could switch orders with this marine, and we agreed. He was not scheduled to move that year, so we would take his place the following year - this year.

So Gregs orders for Lejeune were cancelled, and we got to keep him in Quantico for the year. He was given orders for Iwakuni, Japan summer 2021.
